Djibouti, strategically located at the horn of Africa, is a major international port for continental Africa and serves as the home for major international military bases. The United States’ Camp Lemonnier is the largest US base on the African continent, and Djibouti also houses the largest French military base outside of France. A Japanese military base is also being established to fight against Somalian piracy. Djibouti’s proximity to Yemen and the Middle East makes it the perfect staging area for anti-terrorism activities in those areas. After the recent rebellion in Mali, western powers will be more eager than ever to ensure they have adequate military presence across the Sahara and Sahel regions.
With Camp Lemonnier developing into a forward operating base for the whole of Sahel Africa and as a staging area for operations in the Middle East, the demand for logistical and operational support is increasing including for vehicles. Net demand for four-wheel drive vehicles is expected to grow by over 500 units this year, fuelled primarily by the growth of Camp Lemonnier and the parallel activities of other military parties in the area. Currently, there are no modern fleet management services available in the country.
Over the next few months, Nuevva will be working with private companies in Djibouti to explore possibilities for partnership in the fleet management space. Please contact Nuevva if you are already active in Djibouti and are working in fleet management, transport, or the automotive sector – Nuevva is interested in meeting you.
